Welcome to 2019! A new year for new possibilities! I charge you to go get them!
A few weeks ago we spoke about the truth that we speak. This week we put a different spin on it. When you think about your truth, what picture of your identity does it paint? That’s right, because the words you speak also paint the picture you see. Let that sink in! How you see yourself is going to heavily affect what you accomplish in 2019.
The bible tells us For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he… Proverbs 23:7 NKJV The “he” that is being referred to here is mankind. Me and you. The word of God also tells us that A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:45 KJV Your heart is the source for what you speak and for what you see!
The truth of the matter is that what is in our hearts frame our lives. The above scripture calls the content of our hearts treasure. That means the thoughts of our hearts are valuable! Why do I say thoughts? Because, I believe, something first becomes a thought in our heart before it becomes one in our minds. Take note that the opposite can be true too. First the mind, then the heart. However, for this article we will consider the previous. For example, this magazine. God placed the idea in my heart way before my mind conceived it! When it finally became a thought in my mind I kept telling myself all the reasons I couldn’t do it. The great news is that the desire and/or thought in my heart kept saying YES YOU CAN! Do you know that it is the very thoughts of our heart that the word of God judges? For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 AMP
So again, this takes me back to the same point that was made in the previous article, “You’re Speaking What?” That’s right, the same principle applies! What you think about and how you see yourself should line up with what the word of God says about you! It all goes hand in hand ma’am or sir. When you look in the mirror do you see that you are fearfully and wonderfully made? A marvelous work of the Lord? You should! It’s what the word says about you! I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
Perhaps even now you’re thinking about all the reasons why this can’t be true, because of some things you’ve done in the past. Guess what? It doesn’t matter! You are still what the word of God says about you in God’s eyes! His word says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV See, this passage of scripture alone lets you know that you can choose to see yourself in a whole new light. You are more than what you give yourself credit for!
Better yet, do you know that you were made in the image of God? So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27 KJV We serve a great and mighty God! He is wise, He is loving, creative, and certainly beautiful! If that’s true about Him, it is true about us.
The truth is that God loves us unconditionally! He cares about how we see ourselves. That is one of the reasons why He gave us the word. He wanted to show us who we are! God made no mistakes when He created us, and that the plans for our lives were laid out before we were born… and they are good! Jesus tells us through the Apostle Paul, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NIV Paul’s confession here wasn’t just for him, notice he said “us”! This unconditional love is for you and I as well! For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
I want you to understand more than anything that you are loved, and that you are worthy. So, I ask you again…what do you see when you look in mirror?
