A little while back I saw a video on Facebook that spoke to my spirit, and I pray it will speak to yours too. Let me tell you a little bit about it. In the video, there was a makeshift water slide, for ducklings. That’s right, you read it correctly. Ducklings! I watched as the little cuties got in line to slide down this water slide, but when they came to the end is what got me. They were so happy! So much so, that they would immediately climb back up to the top to get in line and slide back down again! Yes, these little ducklings were willing to take the plunge and it appeared that they were having the time of their lives! For some, of course there was a bit of hesitation at first. However, they conquered their fear and experienced something they enjoyed. That got me to thinking. I thought how many times have I let fear keep me from taking the plunge, and going for what I know God has called me to do? Do me a favor, and yourself the same question.
My internal response was a simple one, “wow”. Only Holy Spirit could take something like a waterslide for ducklings and speak to the heart of man. He is so awesome! With that being said, I thought about all the things I’d missed out on in life, because I didn’t know what was on the other end of the slide. Too afraid to take the ride of destiny and experience the joy which awaited me…had I taken the plunge! In the past, I’ve turned down jobs that I didn’t think I was qualified for. I used to wonder what would have happened had I actually accepted one of them. Especially, since this particular offer was right out of college when I obtained my first degree. On the other hand, some years ago I took a job that I knew I wasn’t qualified for, and I watched Holy Spirit show me resources and wisdom like I’d never experienced!
I realized from the video and even my own personal journey, life is just that, a journey. One we take with the Lord. If we would trust Him and be willing to take the plunge, step out on faith, there’s no limit to what He can’t and will not do for us! I believe we’d be just like those little cuties that were so happy to run back to the top and slide back down again! All that awaited them was a pool of water, but for them it was more than enough! Can you imagine how elated we would be to see what God has in store for us each and every time?
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
What is He asking you to do? Why are you still standing at the top? There is but one answer, no matter how many excuses you can think of! FEAR. Maybe the following example isn’t as serious as what you’re facing, but I hope it encourages you.
Many years ago God placed it on my heart to begin a Christian women’s online magazine. It was then called Virtuous Woman Magazine. I had no writing experience and really wasn’t sure if people would want to read what I had to say. I was excited about the prospect of it though, and over many years began to put it together. Several years after the Lord’s prompting, there was still no magazine, but the desire never died. One night while on a phone call with my dear friend and sister in the faith, God changed the name of the magazine and once again I was off and running. I did this for many more years, and then when it was time, Intimate Surrender Magazine was birthed! And here we are today. I am writing, and you are reading it! What if I’d never put pen to paper? I am so glad I took the plunge and believed God that someone would read what He places on my heart. Regardless of my lack of experience! I am excited every time I post an article, believing that it will touch someone’s life! So my friend, take the plunge and see where it takes you! Slide little ducklings, slide!
